Gp Capt Atanu Guru, Vir Chakra, Yudh Seva Medal is a Professor Emeritus in the area of Soft Skill, OB & HR at BCCM, Bhubaneswar.
Gp Capt Atanu Guru is a Post graduate from Madras University and M Phil in Defence and Strategic Studies. He has completed MBA degree from XIMB and Fellow Programme in Management(FPM) at XLRI, Jamshedpur.
He joined the National Defence Academy in 1978 and was commissioned in the Indian Air Force in 1982. He has taken part in all operations of the Indian Armed Forces till his retirement in 2015. After retiring from the Air Force, he has served in the Cabinet Secretariat till October 2021.
He was the first Odia to be awarded with the prestigious Vir Chakra for conspicuous gallantry, by the President of India in 1987 and Yudh Seva Medal for exemplary leadership in War in 2008. He was also commended by the United Nations as the Commander of the Indian Forces in Congo, Africa.
He has been a Flying Instructor at the Air Force Academy, Hyderabad and the Helicopter Training School, Secunderabad. He also served as a Faculty and Head/Dean of the Training Team at Defence Services Staff College, Wellington which trains officer from 30 friendly countries including USA, UK and Australia.
Group Captain Atanu Guru has held various important appointments including Command of a Combat Squadron, Commander of the Indian Air Force Contingent in the United Nations Peace Keeping Operations at Congo, Africa, Director Operations at Air Headquarters and President of the Air Force Selection Board.
He served as Member Air Force Selection Board, Dehradun and President of Air Force Selection Board, Varanasi.
After retirement he continues to offer his specialist comments on Defence, Aviation and Strategic issues on various News Channels on Television. He is also the Deputy Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bhubaneswar.
